Today, September 19, Macedonia Baptist Church celebrated the 130th anniversary of its founding. The story of Macedonia's beginning is an interesting one. Missionary Baptists had helped a group of Primitive Baptists build their meeting house with the understanding that the Missionary Baptists could continue to support missionaries and hold Sunday School in the meeting house. When opposition came, the Missionary Baptists were forced to leave and met in a tenant house 3 miles south of Monroe, NC, on September 19, 1880, to form the Macedonia Baptist Church. After these 130 years, Macedonians are still committed to cooperative missionary support and Christian education.
